Renting a 7- or 9-seater abroad for a big family

A "7-seater" with car seats rarely fits seven. Here is how to book a vehicle that actually holds your crew and the luggage.

The single biggest mistake big families make abroad is booking a "7-seater" and discovering it seats four kids once the car seats go in. Size up.

Match the vehicle to your real headcount

For two adults plus four or five children, a true 9-seat van (Ford Tourneo, Renault Trafic) beats a tight 7-seater — especially with luggage. Reserve a specific large model, not a "or similar" class.

Sort child seats at booking

Rental child-seat stock is thin and runs out in peak season. Request infant/booster seats by age when you book, and confirm in writing.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 7-seater fit a family of 7?
Often not once car seats are installed — realistically a 7-seater holds about 4 child seats. For 4–5 kids, choose a 9-seat van so everyone and the luggage fit.
Can I get child seats with a rental abroad?
Usually yes as a paid extra, but stock is limited — reserve them by age at booking and reconfirm, or bring your own.
